1. It’s called the ultimate steal and it allows students with a valid school email address to get a copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate for $59.95 (normally $679). Many Colleges and Universities already have an MSDN Academic Alliance partnership with Microsoft which offers students gratis copies of Microsoft Windows and Visual Studio, but Office has never been part of this partnership.

So says Microsoft. It is running a promo dubbed “ Ultimate Steal ” for students who want Microsoft Office 2007 but can’t afford to shell out the full amount. The promotion runs through April 30 and starts Wednesday in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Microsoft has apparently heard the call of students, as today it announced The Ultimate Steal, a limited-time promotion that offers a deep discount on Office Ultimate 2007 (and no, before you ask, it doesn't involve a BitTorrent seed). Available to qualifying students immediately in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom and starting September 20 in Spain, Italy and France, students can purchase the $679 Office suite for a mere $59.95, with one-year subscription licenses available for £12.95/€18.00/CAN$22.00. Fortunately, Microsoft is offering a nice wide window for this promotion, as it ends on April 30, 2008.

To qualify, students must be actively enrolled in an institution of higher education and hold a verifiable e-mail account with the institution. If a university e-mail address is not available, however, Microsoft offers alternative means for verifying one's educational status to score the deal.

In addition to the standard issue Office components, Office Ultimate 2007 also includes Groove 2007, a collaboration tool, and OneNote 2007, a digital notebook for storing, searching and sharing notes and other information.

Piloted originally in Australia, Microsoft was struck with a case of Captain Obvious syndrome when it learned that purchasing Office was a “low or non-priority” to students there due to Office's steep pricing structure.

The Ultimate Steal Microsoft Office 2007 Download

The Free Office 2007 trial requires Windows XP SP2, and asks you to supply your name, address, and e-mail in order to qualify. Once installed, Office will require you to activate the product by registering it with Microsoft. The trial period expires 60 days from the date you install it, at which time you must either purchase the product or deal with working in “reduced functionality mode”.
