Multisim is a SPICE environment for Windows that lets users prototype, design, and test electrical circuits in a simulated manner.
- Assalamu'alaikum Para Master Labview Saya sedang mencoba co simulatian Labview-Multisim, sudah instal labview 2017, multisim 14 student version. Termasuk sudah instal control & simulation modul, juga co simulation. Namun disaat membuat program function, begitu saya klik external model kenapa multisi.

Multisim, which used to be called Electronic Workbench, is a SPICE platform for Windows developed by National Instruments. SPICE stands for Simulation Program with Integrated Circuits Emphasis. It’s a tool often used to teach students about electrical circuits because it allows for real-world experience without the risks of working with electrical circuits in the actual real-world.
The application comes with a large selection of objects that can be used in creating, modeling, and testing electrical circuits. These objects include known electrical components, predefined schema, simulation modules and more. The suite also allows for additional modules, including third-party modules, which can be loaded to dictate the current simulation behavior. For instance, a micro-controller module would provide the behaviors and errors common to such an environment.
Multisim is such a powerful tool because one doesn’t need advanced knowledge to use it. Trial and error is encouraged, but the program is sophisticated enough to facilitate an experienced user exploring advanced concepts. Everything that’s needed to prototype, design, develop and even test electrical circuits that do or could exist in the real-world is provided here.
This program has been around awhile, and it shows. The UI has never received the overhaul it should have, but it works well once you’re used it. The UI can be daunting to the new user. It will certainly be familiar to users who have experience in other SPICE environments, but this is a program for beginners. It’s worth noting that many people who use this program are students who are guided by an instructor. If you’re tackling this challenge on your own, some research and trial and error will likely be required.
Pros
- Prototype and design electrical circuits
- Test electrical circuits
- Includes a broad range of intuitive analysis features
Cons
- Outdated user interface
- Not as user-friendly as it could be
National Instruments Multisim is an industry standard circuit design and analysis program. Because of its ease-of-use and prevalence in the industry, many higher education institutions teach it to their students. Of course, the first step to using your software is to install it. We’ve been getting some questions about this from our customers, so we put together this post to help make the process easier. Please be aware that Multisimdoes not run on Mac. This program is specifically for the PC.
Downloading your Multisim Software
Let’s get started:
- First, go to this link: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-circuit-design-suite-educational-edition-14.1/6510/en/
- When the website opens, click the “I am a current user of NI Circuit Design Suite Educational Edition” option, as shown here:
- If you are not already signed into an NI account, you will be asked to create an NI account. Fill out the information that’s asked of you and click “Create Account”.
- Once your account is created and you’re signed in, you will be brought back to the download page.
Choose the same link again, as seen here:
- Now the download will begin. Wait for it to finish downloading.
Installing your Multisim Software
- Once it’s done downloading, go to your Downloads folder and find the NI_Circuit_Design_Suite_14_1_Education file. Right-click this file and choose “Run as Administrator”, as seen here:
- A window will come up asking you to extract files, click “OK” on this window:
- On the next window that opens, leave everything default and click “Unzip”:
- Let the files process. This could take a few minutes.
- When the files are done processing, a window will say “560 files unzipped successfully”. Click OK on this window:
- Now, the installer will automatically open.
- On the installer window, click “Next”:
- On the next window, fill out your name and organization. Choose the option for “Install the product using the following serial Number” and put in your serial #. If you do not have your serial #, you can choose the “Install this product for evaluation” option and put in the serial # later, during the activation process.
- On the next window, leave everything default and click “Next”
- On the Feature’s section, left click the dropdown next to NI ELVISmx, and choose “Do not install NI ELVISmx”, then click “Next”, as seen here:
- On the proceeding window, leave the check box checked and click next:
- The installer will search for updates. As of this writing (9/11/2017), there are no updates listed. The next window will tell you no updates have been found. Click “Next”.
